As time moved on, our kids all graduated from college, and now Doris became a built in wedding organizer. Although Doris was a member of the Church of Scotland, she began to go to catholic church with her future husband and his family. She developed a close relationship with the pastor, Father Hanrahan, who eventually helped her get her sacraments and Doris became a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church. She married Tony at Our Lady of Fatima, in North Bergen, NJ in 1976. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.
To help her family survive, she finished secondary school early and went to work at the carpet mills at the age of 15. She met one of her future sister in laws and other friends there. But she always told me that there was rampant alcoholism and crime including in particular with her friends and decided to try and get away by taking a Nanny job in NYC in 1964.
